http://www.somosprimos.com/sp2011/spjul11/spjul11.htm Dear Primos and friends:
This issue includes the 30th article in the Breaking Barriers series by
Mercy Bautista-Olvera. The series consists of 5 living Latinos who have
achieved positions of prominence and responsibility in government,
business, and/or education. This issue completes 150 mini-bios. The series
was conceived to provide resources for teachers and youth leaders, but can
be used by everyone in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept 15-Oct
15. The August issue will include an index of the series.
I am sure you will all find Eddie Martinez' research on whether Thomas
Alva Edison was Mexican fascinating, and John Schmal's proof of Ritchie
Valens ancestral lineage to many of the early Spanish/Mexican colonizing
families of California.
This issue is coming out a week early because I am holding down grandma
duties while my daughter and son travel to the Dominican Republic to fly
back with their missionary son.
With the most sincerest thank you to all who send information. Your
efforts are helping all of us to understand our heritage and connections
through reflecting on what is happening all over the world.
I join the LtCol Lon (Vela) VomBaur family in wishing all a Happy 4th of
July.
God bless America, Mimi
