This tip about interpreting your ancestors' death certificates comes from the new Family Tree University course Death Records 101, taught by Diana Crisman Smith: You may come across unfamiliar or archaic medical terminology as a cause of death on your ancestors' death certificates. For contemporary definitions, try typing the term into the dictionary of medical terms at Medline Plus, an online service of the National Institute of Health. If you have a speaker on your computer, the site will even pronounce the term for you. Another excellent source for information on archaic illnesses is the Antiquus Morbus website.
